Welcome June! Lucky babies born in June have three birthstones to choose from: pearl, alexandrite and moonstone.
Pearls are unique in that they form within a living creature. They have been treasured for thousands of years. All pearls were natural pearls before the 1920's when pearls began to be cultivated. Today, cultured pearls have all but replaced natural pearls in jewelry.Pearls are treasures from the Earth's ponds, lakes, seas and oceans and they have always been associated with the mystery, power and life-sustaining nature of water. The spherical shape of pearls led some cultures to associate pearls with the moon.

Alexandrite, June's second birthstone, is an extremely rare chrysoberyl with chameleon-like qualities. Its color is a lovely green in both daylight and fluorescent light but it changes to a purplish-red in incandescent light.

A relatively new gemstone, alexandrite was first discovered in 1831 during the reign of it's namesake, Czar Alexander II.

The third birthstone for June, the moonstone, was given its name by the Roman natural historian, Pliny, who wrote that moonstone's appearance altered with the phases of the moon - belief that was held until well after the sixteenth century.
A phenomenal gemstone, moonstones show a floating play of light called adularescence and, sometimes, a multi-rayed star or a cat's eye.
So, choose your favorite or choose all three! June offers something for everyone!
