It's hard to know what beauty trends for each season are. I get asked a lot about what is on trend and while I am more then happy to rant on about it - I thought I would post a (not so quick to write) post about what you can expect to see over the summer months in terms of beauty!
Remember that its all fine and well seeing something on the catwalks but translating that into an everyday look can be quite hard. Choose something that suits you if your not sure about dipping into a new trend or simply downplay the colors if you want to experience something new. If your more then happy to experiment then just go for it!
1 - Soft Base

WHO: Christopher Kane
HOW: Achieve this look by using a sheer foundation. It's all about healthy matte finishes so use a light powder over the top. Apply light coral/peach blush and also the brows appear to be natural and almost boyish. Comb your brow and shade in using a light pencil. The eyes are bare with a minimum amount of mascara. This look is all about less is more and its a great one to try for a day off !

HOW: Apply a light colored base on the lips before applying neon pigment over the top. You can really play around with this one and get some serious color. While I like the idea of using pigment - you could also try Lime Crime, who have a blue shade quite close to this one OR you could try some of the metallic stick on lip stickers which are doing the rounds at the moment.3 : Lip Stains

HOW: Achieve this look by applying a nude lipstick all over and then dotting a darker color in the center before layering a slight gloss over the top. The look is meant to seem as if you have been drinking a dark beverage - possibly wine - so keep the face natural and just the lights slightly colored.4 : Boyish Brows

HOW: Again the base is flawless and dewy, lips have the same slight stain using a matte lipstick but the brows have a messy finish to them. You can use a pencil to color in the brows and give them shape. While the brow seems messy - its incredibly defined and shaped. I would pop some browset over that and comb the hairs at the corner of the eye into place. Browset is a colored or clear liquid which holds the hairs where you have combed them - sort of like hairspray for brows!5 : Electric Eyes

HOW: This is the same as the lips but for eyes. Keep the rest of the look simple but you can see that the artist has used incredibly vibrant blush which really works against the sharp blue of the shadow - causing both to pop. She's left the lips bare. Start by using a base color and applying your shadow in layers building up the color. I would suggest Electric Eel or Aquadisiac to keep it fresh (both are MAC products) and then popping a slightly lighter color above the lid to the brow bone for highlighting. You can also see that she has used a very very light yellow/gold shade mixed with the blue for the highlighting and in the corner of the eye. Your not required to use blue - you could use green or orange for the same effect!6 : Punk eyeliner

HOW: This isn't about your sexy eyeliner flick - its about a smudged line under the eyes which toughens the look and creates a dirty 'I've just come from the gig' appeal. I would use a creamy liner under the eyes like Smoulder by MAC or duostick from AVON but only use one color. Pop it under the eyes in a thick line avoiding the usual flick - then take your brush and slightly smudge. Try adding a bit of black eyeshadow (any will do) and dab it over it just to hold it in place. The artist has balanced the liner by keeping the top of the eye simple with one color and a slightly metallic hue. You can add a tiny bit of mascara to this too.7 : Disco red lips

WHO: Temperley SS12. Look by Revlon
HOW: This is a combination of the boy brow, fresh base and red lips. The idea is to look as if you have been dancing all night - so a light dewy glow - leave your powder off! Define the eyes with a small bit of mascara and use a light nude shade on the lid. Comb the brows into place but don't worry about a finished effect - the red lip is the focus here. Line your lips using a lip pencil - I cannot stress how important lip liner actually is. It makes the world of difference to your lipstick! - Take your matching lipstick - keep it bright and cherry red and fill in the lips. I would use something with a bit of gloss here but not much. You should pop a colored or clear gloss over the top so try not to get too glossy with a shiny lipstick. This is a look which you need to keep on top of - there is nothing worse then a red lip which has been allowed to fade over the hours!8 : Bright eyes!

HOW: Start with by layering up a white eyeshadow. Keep it matte before applying a dramatic mascara. White eyeshadows are great for highlighting good mascara. The idea is to open the eye up and really make it pop. Balance with a nude glossy lip.9 : The 90s

HOW: Think big brows, bronzed skin balanced with a brown lip. No seriously, a brown lip! I would use something like Hang Up, Darkside or Diva from MAC if your too afraid to go brown brown but would consider a wine red. Again, line the lips with a pencil before applying your lipstick. Keep it semi matte. I would then add bronzer - MAC have a great new bronzer - Pro Longwear bronze in their Hello Sailor collection which works like charm. Avoid anything too glittery - the idea is to look sunkissed - not disco! The great thing about the new pro longwear bronze is that it is sheer enough to allow the natural tones in your skin to come through, this means you get a much more natural application. Pop a golden highlighter everywhere you can!10 : The stained colored lip

HOW: Use a bright colored lipstick in a light pink shade. Line the lips before popping a color on. Then take a contrasting darker shade (like this purple in the center) and dot it in the center before using your finger to smudge it out. This to me, as a MAC lipstick head, seems like 'Pink Plaid' from the Matte collection with a bit of 'Cyber' in the center to smudge. But your free to make your own color combinations. There you have it!
